VOLUNTEERS NEEDED NEW YEAR'S EVE 4:30-8:30PM

The Town of Canmore is hosting several events to bring in the New Year. One of these events is a free public skate.

  • Date: December 31st, 2024
  • Location: Canmore Recreation Centre
  • Activities: This family-friendly event will include a DJ dance party, photobooths, skating, live music, food, outdoor firepits and marshmallow roasting, and a pyrotechnics show at 8pm. Last year we saw over 3000+ attendees throughout the evening.
  • Event Time: 5pm – 8pm
  • Volunteer Shift: Rink Monitors (18+ preferred) on the Alex Kaleta Arena or Thelma Crowe Arena from 4:30pm – 8:30pm (4 hour shift)
  • Responsibilities: Ensuring people are wearing skates on the ice and those ages 12 and under have a helmet on. Monitoring to make sure people are being safe, providing helpful information about what else is going on and wayfinding, etc.

Organizers have stated they will be able to provide an honourarium to the Canmore Skating Club, with the amount depending on how many volunteers can support. This could be a great opportunity for parents who will already be attending the event, and want to help support your organization.

Please contact Cecelia at the Town of Canmore if you are willing and able to volunteer.

STAR 6 TO GOLD ASSESSMENT DAY - NOVEMBER 17

There are several changes to the Sunday schedule in the next 4 weeks that Sunday skaters need to be aware of:

October 27 - Performance Day - 4:30-6:30pm

  • This day gives skaters who are preparing for competitions, FunSkates and assessments to perform their programs for an audience and a guest assessor.  All members, please come down and cheer on your fellow club members - spectators welcome! This event was in the calendar at registration time.

November 17 - Star 6 to Gold Assessment Day - 4:30-6:45pm (Adult/Teen session 6:45-7:30 as usual)

  • This event was not in the calendar at registration time but the Coaches and Board have agreed to cancel our regular sessions (Sunday A and Sunday B) in order to accommodate Assessor, Dance Partner, Coach and Skater schedules. The Adult/Teen session will run as usual from 6:45-7:30pm.
  • Ice time in lieu of session A and B has been organized as follows:
    • Sunday October 27 from 4:00-5:00pm (yes, this overlaps a bit with Performance Day. If this is a major concern for you once the Performance Day schedule has been announced, please contact the Club email.
    • Sunday October 27 from 6:30-7:30pm
    • Stroking and Edges sessions will occur on both of these sessions as usual.

So, Sunday, October 27 - lots of moving parts. Hopefully, it all makes sense. Confer with your coach or email your questions to canmoreskatingclub@gmail.com

SUMMER SKATING IN CANMORE SURVEY

Dear skaters and skating families,

The Canmore Skating Club has the opportunity to book ice in Canmore, Monday through Friday from July 2 - August 9. Late afternoon into early evening.

Please complete this Survey Monkey survey describing the amount of skating you would like to do during this time and whether you have high tests you would like to try. For budgetary purposes, use the fee of $25 per hour of ice time (subject to change depending on the amount of interest; does not include coaching), as the Town of Canmore's summer prime time ice rental rates are considerably higher than during the rest of the year.

The Board needs your responses by Friday, March 29 to meet booking deadlines. Sorry for the rush.  The survey is short and easy to fill in.

Link is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/F8LX97T

Thank you in advance for taking the time to respond.

We make this acknowledgement in the spirit of respect, reconciliation and gratitude to the people of Treaty 7 - the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations (Chiniki, Bearspaw, Wesley), and the Métis Nation (Region 3) - on whose territory we are so fortunate to live, work, learn and play.
