Peter Nicol

Friday: Music Foundations

Saturday: Good Energy

Sunday: Juggling

Please join this session for an introduction to basic music concepts that are essential for a quality skating program.  This session will also include discussion from a Judge's perspective on how they assess a skater's musical capabilities for their performance and the marks awarded.

Facilitator:  Leslie Keen, ISU Judge (Singles, Pairs, Dance) and musician

Join Dr. Lise-Marie Irving for a dynamic 30-minute seminar designed to help figure skating athletes stay calm, focused, and powerful before and during competitions. Drawing on her unique background as an ex internationally ranked athlete, trained medical doctor and energy medicine expert, Dr. Irving will guide you through a series of quick and effective biomechanical movements and breathing techniques. These simple yet powerful practices will help you sharpen your focus, manage nervousness, and boost your physical stamina. By addressing the five levels of health—physical, vitality, emotional, mental, and spiritual—you’ll leave the seminar equipped with tools to perform at your highest level, ensuring both success and fulfillment in your competitions.

Juggling is an excellent off-ice way to work on balance, coordination, and reaction time. Also it is a great stress reliever and warm-up prior to performing. Skaters are already jugglers, using their bodies as props instead balls, clubs, and sticks, which explains why skating is cross training for juggling, and maybe vice versa. Both require knowing where your body  is in space.

We make this acknowledgement in the spirit of respect, reconciliation and gratitude to the people of Treaty 7 - the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations (Chiniki, Bearspaw, Wesley), and the Métis Nation (Region 3) - on whose territory we are so fortunate to live, work, learn and play.
