CanSkate Stages 4-6 (Pre-STAR)

is a continuation of the CanSkate program with a figure skating focus. This is a fully coached program delivered in a group format and includes on and off ice components. Skaters must have achieved at least CanSkate stage 3 and proper figure skates and blades are required. A CSA approved hockey helmet is required to participate in this program until the skater has passed stage 5.  If you haven't been part of Skate Canada's CanSkate program but confidently skate forwards and backwards and wish to explore figure skating, please contact the Club - this may be a great place to get started.

All of our group programming follows a three-station format, designed to create an engaging environment for skill development.  CanSkate lessons continue to more advanced Balance, Control, and Agility skills, gradually transitioning towards those pertinent to figure skating, hockey, and speed skating.

We are currently offering a hybrid group program for skaters working on CanSkate stages 4 - 6 (Pre-Star) or StarSkate levels 1-3. Each session includes a 10-minute off-ice group warm-up, three 15-minute lessons, group activities, and a 30-minute dryland training session with a cool-down period. We encourage anyone who is interested in skating, to work through the crucial early stages of skill development in a group environment where we emphasize quality basics, barrier-free advancement, and early introduction of complex elements. We aim to foster skill acquisition through team-building activities and progression at-your-own pace, while ensuring a smooth transition from CanSkate to figure skating.

Looking for a second day of skating? CanSkate (4-6) skaters who are interested in a second day of skating during Spring 2024 should consider the 45-minute CanSkate class offered on Thursdays from 5:15-6:00pm.
